Sweet Chilli Teriyaki Broccoli

Sweet Chilli Teriyaki Broccoli

Sweet and hot is the combination flavour that brings these green vegetables from boring to super tasty! Eating healthy can be satisfying and take it from me, I will not eat anything unless it tastes good. That is why I strive for flavour and the strategy to making things taste delicious is flavour layering like this Sweet Chill Teriyaki Broccoli. What is so cool about spicy and sweet dishes, well you get a double rush of endorphins because eating spicy and sweet things can cause your brains pituitary gland and hypothalmus specifically to release the endorphins.  Endorphins can be known as a trigger happy chemical, which gives you an instant feeling of pleasure from head to toe. People crave the spiciness and sugar in food just the same way they crave something sweet and salty.  Sweet and Spicy will bring us back again and again for more of those trigger happy chemicals and this Sweet Chilli Teriyaki Broccoli appetizer will do exactly that.

I create a lot of dishes using teriyaki sauce. Sometimes I make Teriyaki sauce from scratch by simply combining 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1 t of minced ginger-garlic paste, 4 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 T of cornstarch, 1/4 cup hot water, 1/2 t child flecks and whisk it well for 1 minute. But for this recipe I wanted to make it easier for you by heading to the super market to buy a bottle of Gluten Free Teriyaki sauce https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Kikkoman-Brand-Gluten-Free-Soy-Sauce/6000122565403 .

The spice level for this recipe all comes down to how many peri peri peppers you use. I like it hot but for someone that likes things mild, air on the side of caution and only use 1 to 2.  I prefer using pickled peri peri peppers. One of my favourite olives are stuffed with peri peri peppers. So for this recipe I simply removed the peppers out of the olives. These olives are sold at many grocery stores across Canada such as Loblaws and IGA. Here is a link to buy it from IGA https://www.iga.net/en/product/olivespiri-piri-stuffed/00000_000000005582303120 .

Today’s busy lifestyles require more convenience, so appetizers such as this Sweet Chilli Teriyaki Broccoli only takes 5 minutes to make. Hope you love this recipe as much as I do. I look forward to receiving your experience and feedback for this recipe and my other creations.  For more free recipes and food blogs please subscribe today.
